Alex co-founded Chiltern Capital. He has a background in strategic, financial and operational management, having previously been a COO and CFO, and has led a management buy-in with backing from private equity. Prior to this he was CFO of an AIM listed training company, creating value through a combination of organic growth and targeted acquisition, prior to leading its successful sale to Pearson.
He has extensive experience of working with entrepreneurs and teams to grow and develop their businesses.
Alex qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC.
He has a keen interest in food (cooking and eating), and a love of the outdoors.

Tom co-founded Chiltern Capital with Alex Sheffield in 2015 and is a member of the Investment Committee. Tom focuses on developing the firm’s origination activities and completing new investments and has been significantly involved in all of the firms deals to date. He has extensive experience in the business services and technology sectors.
Prior to Chiltern Capital, Tom was a director at Livingstone Partners.
Tom is an avid follower of Gloucester Rugby Club.

Ryan has been involved in private equity for more than two decades. Most recently, he founded International Schools Partnership (ISP) with private equity backing, and is currently Deputy Chairman. Prior to ISP, Ryan was CEO of World Class Learning. Based on his experience as Chairman of Schools Standards and Performance for disadvantaged state schools, he has written three respected national policy papers on educational disadvantage and children in care.
He was previously a founder and Managing Partner of Sovereign Capital.
He is a long-suffering fan of Newcastle United Football Club and in his spare time is a keen scuba diver and skier.

Ed originates and leads new investments and is a member of the Investment Committee. Ed joined Chiltern in 2019 after spending eight years at Endless LLP where he focused on transformational investments across a range of sectors, including business services, technology, engineering and industrials in the UK and overseas. Prior to Endless, Ed qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.
Outside of work, Ed’s life currently revolves around the chaos of his young family. His interests include keeping fit, all things sporty and supporting Wasps RFC.

Thomas Holroyd
Investment Director
Thomas joined Chiltern Capital in 2018. He was previously a Vice President at Vitruvian Partners, where he focused on investments in the financial services, consumer services and technology sectors.
Prior to Vitruvian, Thomas was an Assistant Director at Livingstone Partners where he advised on transactions in the technology, leisure and media sectors. He is a Chartered Accountant having qualified at PwC.
Thomas is an avid traveller having visited almost 40 countries on five continents, and particularly enjoys the search for remote beaches on which to enjoy a good book.

David Butler
Investment Manager
David joined Chiltern Capital in 2019. He was previously an Associate Director at Downing LLP where he focused on early stage growth capital investing across a range of sectors.
Prior to Downing, David was a Manager in the Corporate Finance team at PwC in London where he advised on transactions in the retail, financial services, industrial and technology sectors. He also spent three years within the PwC Assurance practice where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Outside of work, David played National League rugby for Barnes RFC for 10 years before calling time due to injury (and to spend time lowering his golf handicap). David is a keen cyclist, skier and enjoys most other outdoor pursuits.

Alistair Gray
Investment Manager
Ali was previously an Investment Manager at Horizon Capital where he focused on originating and investing in B2B technology and Business Service companies, as well as supporting portfolio companies in delivering their growth strategies.
Ali started his career at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Account whilst working in the mid-market Audit and Corporate Finance teams.
Away from the office, Ali enjoys playing squash and golf as well as trying to grow vegetables.

Joe Bennett
Investment Manager
Joe was previously a Director at a private family office, where he led European lower-mid market deals across a variety of sectors including TMT, Business Services and Healthcare, as well as acting as a non-executive director for investee companies.
Joe started his career at KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in TMT Audit, before spending three years in the mid-market Transaction Services department, managing financial due diligence engagements primarily for UK Private Equity houses.
Outside of work, Joe is a keen sportsman playing club hockey and golf. When not playing sport, Joe enjoys getting out into the countryside to walk Fitz, his Greek rescue dog.

Matthew Holmes
Origination Manager
Matthew joined Chiltern Capital in 2020. He was previously an Executive at August Equity where he was responsible for sourcing investments in the lower mid-market across Business Services and TMT sectors, as well as supporting portfolio companies with their acquisitive growth strategies.
Matthew started his career at KPMG where he worked with entrepreneurs in the Mergers & Acquisitions team, originating and executing transactions in the lower mid-market across a number of sectors.
Outside of the office Matthew is a keen sportsman playing club rugby and golf. When not playing sport, Matthew enjoys cooking up a storm.

Ben Robinson
Investment Associate
Ben joined Chiltern Capital in 2019. He was previously a Manager within Transaction Services at PwC, focusing on mid-market deals across several sectors including business services and consumer products.
Ben qualified as a Chartered Accountant within PwC’s Assurance practice.
Away from the office, Ben enjoys all things active. He is an avid rugby player and more recently a novice triathlete and marathon runner.

Laura Yell
Investment Associate
Laura joined Chiltern at the start of 2021. Previously she was a Director at Jamieson Corporate Finance, where she spent five years advising Management teams in private equity backed transactions, working with companies across a range of sectors, geographies and sizes. She also worked with a number of ongoing clients assisting with M&A bolt-ons.
Laura is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA Charterholder).
Away from the office, Laura is keen sportswoman, and enjoys playing and watching most sports; including tennis, surfing, golf and rugby. Laura is also a season ticket holder at Chelsea Women FC.

Jonathan joined Chiltern Capital in 2018. He was previously a Director in the Principal Investments team at Barclays. Jonathan began his career with Barclays Ventures where he worked on the origination and execution of smaller mid-market investments. In recent years, he focused on the execution of debt-equity swaps arising from restructuring situations, often working alongside other institutional shareholders.
He has new investment and portfolio management experience having worked with the boards of more than 25 portfolio companies across a range of sectors.
